Things You'll Do Less Of After Air Duct Cleaning

Posted on: 8 August 2023

Having your ducts cleaned does cost money, and it does take some time. However, you should not let those facts keep you from scheduling an air duct cleaning, especially if it has been more than a couple of years since the last time you had your ducts cleaned. People often cite improved indoor air quality and energy efficiency as reasons to have ducts cleaned, and indeed, these are the primary benefits of the service. But another benefit of duct cleaning is that after you have it done, you should find yourself doing a lot less of the following things:

Dusting and Vacuuming

The dirt in your ducts does not all stay there. Every time you turn your heat or air conditioning on, some of the dirt in your ducts blows out with the moving air. It then settles on surfaces, such as your carpets and furniture. You may feel like you're constantly having to vacuum and dust to keep your home clean. After you have your ducts cleaned, you should notice that dust takes longer to accumulate in your home, even during the heating and cooling season. In response, you should be able to space your dusting and vacuuming sessions out a bit more.

Changing Your Air Filter

The air filter in your HVAC system is meant to catch the dirt and small debris that comes through the system so that grime does not settle on your furnace burner or AC coil. But if your ducts are really dirty, the HVAC filter might be getting clogged almost as soon as you put it in place. You may find that you need to replace it every couple of weeks. After you clean your ducts, there will be less dirt blowing into the filter, so you won't need to change it as often.

Take Allergy Medications

Do you have allergies to pet dander, mold spores, or dust mites? These are really common indoor allergens, and you often find them in dirty ducts. If you have to take allergy medications to keep your symptoms under control right now, that is likely to change once your ducts are clean. Fewer allergens in your home mean fewer symptoms and less reliance on medication.

After you have your ducts cleaned, you should notice that you clean, change your air filter, and take allergy meds more often. Those three benefits are worth the time and money, aren't they?
